POLICY MANUAL – Shotgun Range
The
policy manual(s) are to be read in conjunction with all common Firearms and
Range Safety Manuals as well as the directives and By-Laws of the Mission and
District Rod and Gun Club, and the RSO Handbook. Members should be familiar with applicable
Canadian and Provincial Firearms Legislation and govern themselves
accordingly.
SHOTGUN
RANGE – GENERAL
DESCRIPTION:
The Shotgun Range consists of 4 Trap
Fields, 1 of which is a combination Trap/Skeet Field.
All Trap Fields are equipped with
automatic traps & voice release systems, the Skeet
Field has automatic Traps with a manual release system.
All fields are lighted to facilitate
night shooting.
A range board is maintained for
patterning shotguns with shot only.
No slugs are permitted nor allowed.
RANGE
SAFETY OFFICERS:
R.S.O’s are volunteer members of the
club who are qualified to assist new shooters and to ensure that all Firearm
Safety Rules and procedures are complied with and members and guests are signed
in. The R.S.O. has the authority and
support of the Club Executive and will report flagrant behavior to the
Executive, which can result in suspension of membership. R.S.O’s can be identified by card or by
wearing a range safety vest.
RANGE
SCHEDULE:
The Shotgun Fields are open whenever
the clubhouse is open & additionally on Wednesday evenings.
Scheduling of events is posted at
the range as well as on the club calendar in the clubhouse. It is recommended that members check the club
website before leaving for the range to avoid conflict with a scheduled
event. Members interested in a
particular shooting discipline can contact that discipline’s Chairman by

RANGE
COURTESY:
Members carrying firearms,
whether from rack to field or in between
posts, shall
ensure that firearms are unloaded & actions open.
Members firing semi-automatic
firearms must be cognizant of members
on adjacent posts as regards their
shell ejection.
Members should have only one
firearm on the firing line at one time.
Treat every gun as if
were loaded.
Keep the action open and
unloaded until it is your turn to shoot.
Make sure the barrel is
clear before loading,double
check barrel after
every malfunction.
Never load more than one
shot in your gun except when shooting
doubles.
Load your gun at the firing
station only.
Guns are to open and empty
when moving from station to station.
Never discard a misfired
shell on the ground.
All pistol grip shotguns
must have a butt attached.
Members who are coaching youths must have
direct “hands-on” supervision
of that
young person and are responsible for all safety aspects.
TARGETS
& TRAPS:
Traps are maintained by designated
volunteers. Problems can be directed to
the caretaker who will contact those designated for repairs. No targets other than standard shotgun
targets are permitted. Club targets are
available for sale at rates to be determined by the Shotgun Committee.
No unauthorized persons shall
service or otherwise operate any of the equipment on the Trap or Skeet Fields.
For obvious reasons, the Club
recommends that appropriate eye and hearing protection be worn while on the
range.
DEER
& BEARS:
On occasion, wildlife may appear on
this range, in which case all firing will cease until the animals clear the
range proper.
MISCELLANEOUS:
The Mission and District Rod and
Gun Club is a Society with a membership approaching
3000 members, all of which are volunteers.
This is your Club and your assistance in keeping its facilities clean
and undamaged is greatly appreciated.
An agreement exists between
Mission & District Rod & Gun Club, Ridgedale
Rod & Gun Club, Langley Rod & Gun Club, Pitt
Meadows Trap & Skeet Club, Abbotsford Fish and Game Club, & Chilliwack
Fish & Game Protective Association whereby each club honours
the other club’s memberships in regard shotgun shooting activities.
Valid
Membership Cards must be worn at all times while on Club Property
